What vaccinations are needed to get my dog licensed?
A current rabies vaccination given by a California licensed veterinarian is the only one state law requires. Other vaccines are recommended for your pet's protection.
Does my cat have to be vaccinated for rabies and licensed?
While highly recommended, this is a voluntary program and not required by law.
Where can I get low-cost vaccination services for my pet?
Most veterinarians offer low cost vaccination clinics. There are many fine veterinarians in the area. Check the High Desert Insider veterinarian listings and call one of them and ask for the dates and times.
Isn't the metal tag my vet gave me a license tag?
No. Animal Control will issue a permanent license tag when your dog is licensed and by law your dog must always wear it. Additional forms of identification are also recommended.
I recently moved to Hesperia from another city. Is my dog's license from my former residence still valid?
No. You must transfer your dog's license to the City of Hesperia within 30 days.
If my dog never leaves my property, why do I need a license?
State law requires all dogs over four months of age to be licensed. You can be given a citation, and under certain circumstances, your dog may be impounded.
If I cannot come to your office, can I obtain a dog license by mail?
Yes. Just send the "rabies certificate" and "sterility certificate" (if the dog is altered) with your check or money order to the address below. You will receive the license back by mail.

This site is to assist searching for a pet. Some pets may not be pictured. Again, please go to shelters in person to locate a pet. Animal Control may not hold your pet longer than the normal holding period of four working days. Although pictured here on a specific date, that may not be the date the pet was brought in and it may be the pet's last day.
